Pease Pudding & Saveloy V Pie and Mash
Chrisp street market

Ivy's (Pease pudding)
Faggots also available

Maureen's (pie and mash)
Eels available ?

Is the pease pudding more of a Geordie thing nowadays?
My mate gets it shipped special and eats it in something called a stotty cake.

Robins have a few shops now including one in Wanstead
They also do a lot of corporate catering and even have a tie up with Asda.

The shop in Southend is pretty decent

Forgot about Nathan's, and yep you're right.
Only tried it once, and that was once too many. Worse than Arments, and they're shit.

GSS

Is Robins the p&m in Wanstead?

IAs Nathan's went soon after we did I tried the pie and mash shop further down Barking road (BJs) but thought I was pretty average.
Robins is always pretty good and I think they. do mail order/ home deliveries..

One also opened not far from me in Ruislip just before lockdown (Hughes P&M ) is pretty decent and does a roaring trade.

Not too sure if they do faggotts or pease pudding mate.
They do however sell stewed and jellied eels.
Only downside is they also offer gravy with their p&m (spits).

That's a decent one, it used to go to the Cherry Tree pub in Maidstone but stopped when the road closed with a sinkhole and never came back. I sometimes shoot over to Rainham.

The Traditional Pie & Mash Co.

Wednesday - The Black Horse, Borough Green
Thursday - Westmoor Farm, Rainham
Friday - The Gamecock, West Kingsdown
Saturday - Sheppey Rugby Club, Minster on Sea

Don't know if any of these locations are near you.
You can also pre-order on 07737 230183 and collect later.

And no, I don't work for them :-)

onesideman - Boiled Bacon with mash, tinned carrots, tinned peas and pease pudding.

You lucky fucker. I still get this from time to time now.

We had a peas pudding and faggot man (van) where I grew up in Kent but haven't seen one on fifty years. I'd be interested to know where the one in Kent is, Mary.

Best faggots I have found are from the butchers in Much Wenlock, Shropshire - huge, cheap and spicy. (cue the Julian Clarys amongst you).

Remember Kellys as being decent (there were a couple in the Roman iirc).
Also a couple of shops in East Ham (think they were also Kellys, but not the same family??) Could be wrong.
TBH, most p&m shops were/are decent. With the exception of Manzies, and Arments which is absolute pigshit.

Ghost.

Same as you mate, I prefer to remember it for what it ( the east end) was rather than what it's become.

Moved away from the area in '98.
The missus occasionally suggests we take both our daughters back for a look around, show them where we grew up, but in all honesty I really can't be arsed.
Still get our p&m fix though as Maureen's do home delivery, and we also have a van that does the rounds out here in Kent. Fucking lovely it is too.

Always used to get pease pudding in a tin, always had it with boiled bacon. Still like it now.

Ghost

I left Poplar in 78, moved out of London for a year (long story) then back to the Isle of Dogs til 85 when I left London for good.
Mostly unrecognisable now, would like my (Aus) Mrs to have seen it years ago as her old man's family all came out if Stepney.

Yeah in the market square with tables outside

I haven't been in a while but should be over that way in a couple of weeks so will check it out.

I prefer Kelly's (Roman Road) for pie and mash

Is Ivy’s the place in the arcade, by the clock tower?

only1billybonds 10:16

I think Maureen used to work in the p&m shop that was on East India Dock Road, and opened her own place when that shut.
Yeah, Square Disc. Great shop. Bought The Pleasure Principle by Gary Numan there, and exchanged it about a year later for Mods Mayday 79.
Haven’t been back to Poplar in years, but guess it’s changed massively.

Re: Pease Pudding & Saveloy V Pie and Mash
Never liked Pease Pudding. When I was a kid we had a regular 5 meal Sunday Lunch rotation, so every 5th week I'd have to eat Boiled Bacon with mash, tinned carrots, tinned peas and pease pudding. It got marginally more bearable once we got into the later 70s and had developed a more continental menu by adding tinned pineapple and I was allowed a very small glass of Pomagne

Manuel

It's made of split yellow peas mashed up a bit like your green mushy peas but finer and fluffier.and spices salt etc added

You dip your saveloys into this goo.

My Nan used to do salt beef, pease pudding and mash,it was av meal from the gods.

Maureen's wasn't there when I used to live in Poplar, spent loads of time in Sqaure Disc, the record shop on Chrisp Street Market.
